On 19 May 2025, our public organization held a working meeting with representatives of the Transcarpathian Biosphere Reserve within the framework of the signed memorandum of cooperation. The meeting was attended by Iryna Dmytrivna Jonash (acting head of the Department of Scientific Foundations of Sustainable Development, Preparation and Implementation of Grant Projects) and Vasyl Fedorovych Pokynchereda (Deputy Head of the Department of Scientific Research and International Cooperation). Our organization was represented at the meeting by the head of the NGO – Dr. Olga Volodymyrivna Donets.
The Valley of Narcissus is a natural pearl of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, which is part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Since 2019, it has had the status of a wetland of international importance in accordance with the Ramsar Convention. This is a unique floodplain area, the only flat area in Europe with the high-altitude narrow-leaved daffodil (Narcissus angustifolius) – a species that acts as an indicator of the state of wetland ecosystems. The valley is a symbol of Ukraine’s natural heritage and an important ecosystem for the region. In recent years, the Valley of Narcissus has been experiencing serious challenges: changing hydrological regimes, lowering groundwater levels, climate change and the pressure of invasive plants threaten its ecological state. The preservation of this unique ecosystem requires joint efforts of scientists, ecologists, the public and local residents.
We sincerely thank Iryna Dmytrivna Jonash and Vasyl Fedorovych Pokynchereda for fruitful cooperation, constructive dialogue and valuable suggestions for further joint activities. Together we can preserve the Valley of Narcissus and ensure its sustainable development!
