The Grassroots Institute Ukraine (TGI Ukraine), with operational support from TGI Canada, has successfully completed an innovative pilot project that demonstrates how participatory innovation can strengthen the integration, self-reliance and resilience of internally displaced persons (IDPs), war-affected households and host communities in Zakarpattia. Implemented during 2024–2026 in 3 municipalities [Khust, Irshava, Vynohradiv] in Zakarpattia Oblast, the pilot responded to one of Ukraine's most pressing humanitarian challenges
A roundtable dedicated to the International Day for Women’s Rights and Peace and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security” in the region was recently held at the Department of Social Protection of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration. The event was attended by Olha Donets, Head of the NGO Grassroots Institute, who joined the professional discussion on key aspects of implementing national and regional policies related to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the development of a safe environment in the context of wartime challenges.
On February 23, 2026, a representative of the NGO Grassroots Institute, attorney-at-law Sofia Shutiak, participated in an online meeting with territorial communities and their associations dedicated to discussing the reform of packaging waste management in Ukraine. The event took place within the framework of the project “Unity for Community”, implemented by ISAR Ednannia with financial support from the European Union, and became one of the stages of a broader public discussion on the revised draft Law of Ukraine “On Packaging and Packaging Waste.”
On February 23, 2026, the forum “Roma Resilience: From Relocation to a New Generation of Leaders in Zakarpattia” took place, with the NGO Grassroots Institute contributing to its organization.
In February 2026, representatives of the The Grassroots Institute participated twice in public consultations on the updated National Energy and Climate Plan of Ukraine (NECP) - a strategic document that defines the direction of national policy in the fields of energy, climate, and decarbonization until 2030.
In October 2025, the founder and member of The Grassroots Institute, Dr. Hasrat Arjjumend, participated in the General Assembly of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations (CINGO) at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Looking back at the events of December, we would like to share another important aspect of the work of the Grassroots Institute, which we did not have the opportunity to highlight earlier, yet which holds long-term significance for the development of our educational and cultural programmes.
On 12 January 2026, representatives of the Grassroots Institute NGO - Olha Donets and Sofiia Shutiak - took part in two online events organized by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, focusing on key issues of environmental policy, legislative reform, and Ukraine’s European integration commitments.

In the spring of 2025, the Grassroots Institute conducted a series of interactive eco-lessons on the topic: “Wind energy – for or against?” This initiative is a part of the larger programs “ECO-AWARE: School of Conscious Decisions” and “Eco-Explorers: The School of Conscious Choices”. The program was created to facilitate a critical evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of renewable energy, cultivate an ecological culture, and foster a sense of civic responsibility among young people.
