Dr. Olga Volodymyrivna Donets is an Associate Professor at the Environmental Law Department, Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University of Ukraine. In 2010, she successfully defended her PhD thesis on the topic ‘Legal Regime of Historical and Cultural Lands.’ She is the Founder Director of The Grassroots Institute in Ukraine.
She specializes in environmental law with a special emphasis on: a) environmental safety (works in the research sector of the University as part of a working group whose activity is aimed at conducting research work on the topic ‘Safety Environment of Ukraine: National and International Legal Aspects’) ; b) legal liability for environmental offenses (in 2023 included in the working group of the Prosecutor’s Training Center of Ukraine for the development of an agreed concept and preparation of the text of a legislative initiative to improve the provisions of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine; she is the author of the academic discipline “Legal Responsibility for Environmental Offenses,” taught at the faculties of the Prosecutor’s Office and Advocacy of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University); c) restoration of the natural resource potential of Ukraine.
She has over 18 years of professional experience in the field of environmental law and environmental safety. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with numerous non-governmental organizations (NGO), such as Kharkiv office of the international organization ‘The European Law Students’ Association’ (ELSA Ukraine), which unites law students and young lawyers; she is a member of the NGO ‘All-Ukrainian Environmental League,’ as well as the Founder Director ‘The Grassroots Institute’ in Ukraine, together with Dr. Hasrat Arjjumend and Dr. Pavlo Lenyo.
She is the author of more than 100 scientific works. Among which are monographs and encyclopaedias, textbooks and manuals, scientific articles and abstracts, in particular: Legal Protection of the Environment: Current State and Prospects of Development (co-author, 2014); The Great Ukrainian Legal Encyclopedia: in 20 vols. – Vol. 14: Environmental Law (co-author, 2019); Modern Theoretical and Applied Foundations of Environmental Law in the National Environmental and Legal Doctrine (co-author, 2023), etc.
