The implementation of the project “The Community Charter as an Instrument of Real Democracy” is ongoing in Zakarpattia region. In March, the fifth civic workshop “Environmental Protection” took place in the city of Vynohradiv. The event was implemented within the framework of the international project EUPHORIA, in partnership with the “Carpathian Human Rights Agency ‘Vested’” and the “Grassroots Institute”. For our organization, participation in such initiatives is an important part of our ongoing work in the field of environmental education, youth support, civic engagement, and the promotion of responsible attitudes toward the environment.
A roundtable dedicated to the International Day for Women’s Rights and Peace and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security” in the region was recently held at the Department of Social Protection of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration. The event was attended by Olha Donets, Head of the NGO Grassroots Institute, who joined the professional discussion on key aspects of implementing national and regional policies related to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the development of a safe environment in the context of wartime challenges.
On February 23, 2026, a representative of the NGO Grassroots Institute, attorney-at-law Sofia Shutiak, participated in an online meeting with territorial communities and their associations dedicated to discussing the reform of packaging waste management in Ukraine. The event took place within the framework of the project “Unity for Community”, implemented by ISAR Ednannia with financial support from the European Union, and became one of the stages of a broader public discussion on the revised draft Law of Ukraine “On Packaging and Packaging Waste.”
On February 23, 2026, the forum “Roma Resilience: From Relocation to a New Generation of Leaders in Zakarpattia” took place, with the NGO Grassroots Institute contributing to its organization.
In February 2026, representatives of the The Grassroots Institute participated twice in public consultations on the updated National Energy and Climate Plan of Ukraine (NECP) - a strategic document that defines the direction of national policy in the fields of energy, climate, and decarbonization until 2030.
In October 2025, the founder and member of The Grassroots Institute, Dr. Hasrat Arjjumend, participated in the General Assembly of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations (CINGO) at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Looking back at the events of December, we would like to share another important aspect of the work of the Grassroots Institute, which we did not have the opportunity to highlight earlier, yet which holds long-term significance for the development of our educational and cultural programmes.
On 12 January 2026, representatives of the Grassroots Institute NGO - Olha Donets and Sofiia Shutiak - took part in two online events organized by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, focusing on key issues of environmental policy, legislative reform, and Ukraine’s European integration commitments.
